ReportPortal has always been an open-source solution built to serve the test automation community. For years, our team has invested deeply in bringing real value to users – enabling teams to make their automation workflows faster, clearer, and more efficient, so they spend less time analyzing results and more time improving product quality.
As ReportPortal continues to grow, our community grows with it. This growth is exciting, but it also means higher effort and greater responsibility in how we invest our time. To keep delivering meaningful value, we need to be intentional about where our focus goes.
Our Core Mission
At its core, ReportPortal exists to support test automation workflows. Our mission is to help teams continuously improve product quality by making test results easier to understand, analyze, and act on – while keeping the solution open source.
When we talk about core functionality, we mean:
reporting and visualization of test results
analytics that transform raw data into insights
integrations that directly improve automation workflows
This mission has not changed – and it remains our main priority.
Beyond the Core
Over time, ReportPortal has grown into a large and powerful solution. Alongside its core reporting and analytics capabilities, it includes additional features that significantly expand its scope – such as SSO and Active Directory integration.
These features are valuable, especially for enterprise environments, but they are not directly related to ReportPortal’s main purpose. At the same time, everything related to authentication requires significant ongoing effort – security updates, maintenance, compatibility, and support.
For many years, ReportPortal provided these enterprise-level capabilities for free. In most other tools on the market, features like SSO are paid and considered enterprise-grade.
Refining Our Focus
Because we want to make ReportPortal better every day at what was designed for – test automation reporting and analytics – we decided to rethink our priorities this year.
Going forward, we will focus more of our engineering effort on features that directly improve automation outcomes. Non-core, enterprise-level capabilities will move into paid offerings where appropriate. This allows us to keep the open-source core healthy, evolve faster, and deliver more value overall.
Looking Ahead
In 2026, we’re introducing two features that reinforce ReportPortal’s core direction and significantly expand how teams work with tests.
1. Test Management System
The introduction of the Test Management System (TMS) marks a major step in ReportPortal’s evolution. With this new functionality, ReportPortal is transforming from a test automation results dashboard into a comprehensive Test Management, Reporting, and Analytics platform.
With TMS, teams can go beyond simply reporting automated test results. They can now:
create and manage test cases directly within ReportPortal
plan and organize releases and test activities
report both automated and manual test results in real time
analyze executions and build meaningful dashboards
monitor overall testing health and release readiness
While solutions with similar capabilities are typically paid, TMS will be available for free as part of ReportPortal’s open-source offering, making advanced test management accessible to the entire community.
2. Organizations
As ReportPortal adoption grows, teams increasingly operate across multiple projects that represent different parts of a product or system. Organizations introduce a new way to group these projects into a single logical space.
It enables:
grouping related projects within one organization
centralized administrative controls
scalable usage for large and distributed organizations
Organizations are not just about grouping – they establish the foundation for upcoming functionality. At the organization level, teams will be able to access a high-level view across multiple projects – for example, tracking overall testing health and evaluating release readiness across the entire product, not just its individual components.
For example, teams will be able to separate backend and frontend into different projects, while still having a unified, organization-level view of overall quality and release readiness.
A single organization will be available to all users as part of the open-source offering. This ensures that every team can benefit from grouping projects and gaining a unified view across them.
The ability to create and manage multiple organizations is a premium feature. This approach aligns with our direction of separating enterprise-level capabilities from the open-source core, while keeping essential reporting and analytics functionality freely available to the community.
Authentication Updates
As we invest more effort in our core functionality and new features, and given the team’s limited capacity, we have to reduce maintenance in areas outside ReportPortal’s main mission. This affects authentication-related capabilities.
1. Active Directory Update
Starting from version 26.1, ReportPortal will no longer support Active Directory integration out of the box.
What does this mean:
users on versions below 26.1 can continue using Active Directory without changes
if Active Directory is critical and you want to upgrade to newer versions, we can provide AD integration as a paid custom request, implemented specifically for your needs
This approach allows us to move forward without blocking teams that depend on AD.
2. SSO Becomes Premium
With the release of TMS and Organizations, all SSO (SAML) and LDAP functionality will move into ReportPortal’s paid subscription.
At the same time, GitHub authentication will remain available for free as part of the open-source offering.
SSO requires continuous investment in:
security and compliance
ongoing compatibility with identity providers
enterprise-level reliability and support
We are very grateful to our community for actively supporting each other – especially those who help answer SSO-related questions in GitHub issues. This contribution is highly valuable and appreciated. However, community support alone is not always sufficient, and resolving more complex cases often requires involvement from our development team. This, in turn, diverts focus from building and improving core ReportPortal features.
Moving SSO into a subscription aligns ReportPortal with industry standards and helps us sustainably maintain this functionality.

subscription unlocks Organizations and SSO (SAML), and LDAP
Active Directory and LDAP are overlapping a lot. LDAP is available via subscription already and doesn't require additional development from ReportPortal team.
Upgrade Guidance
To reduce uncertainty:
if SSO is essential for you, you can safely stay on versions below 26.1
if you want new features and rely on SSO (SAML), LDAP or Active Directory, we recommend considering our managed service offerings
These decisions were driven by a long-term commitment to keep ReportPortal strong, sustainable, and focused on what it does best.

By focusing our efforts on what matters most, we believe we can deliver even more value to the entire community over the years ahead.
